New lights

I just got a set of 2x96 Power quads. I am going to build my own canopy for it.
My question is how much height should I leave between the glass and the lights?
I know there has been quite a discussion about glass or no glass, but the instructions for these lights say the tank must be completely covered. I don't want to break my glass so I am considering getting an acrylic sheild, I don't want to melt the acrylic. Any tips on how high to build the canopy?

GO for the plexiglass, there are many types of pglass that are close to heat resistant. Also, put at least 2 fans to help the heat down. Also the light must have an offset atleast 6 inches.
GOODLUCK

what do you mean by an offset? Do you mean height above the plexiglass? I already have 2 fans incorporated into my plans. Thanks for your help!
Also, if I use the plexiglass? what about leaving a small area open for aeration? Do I need to do this? My tank is a corner tank and currently there is a 10 inch plastic triangle at the rear of the tank (over the overflow - the tank is reef ready). The rest of the tank is covered with glass. Should I have the plexiglass cut to the exact dimensions of the glass cover?
