I have 3 new pieces of live beautiful love rock. Now after being in my tank for about three weeks, they are starting to grow the ugly green algae. What can I do to get that off and keep all the nice purple algae.

Keeping a good amount of calcium in the water always helps the groth of some good purple stuff!

everything that was posted helps a lot but u will actually go through several stages of algea. that u will have to suffer through for a while. macro alge helps eliminate the nuinance alges they compete with them for nutrients give it time, check water, clean up crews and it'll work out :D

Some algae is good, but green is an indication of overfeeding the tank! The "purple stuff" is coralline algae, and needs the correct amount of calcium (400 to 500 PPM) to propagate. Brown algae is from sunlight, and green algae is from overfeeding the tank. I had the same problem, but after I cut way back on feeding, the green is gone and the tank is happy & healthy. Good luck!
