Really beautiful pieces...just wanted to share. I was told its from the Gulf; I guess divers "rope" off an area and are allowed to harvest so much for so long. If anyone can ID something on there, sure would be appreciated. Hope my pics are good enough to see all the life and colors! Thanx!

This is interesting, I'll have to pull a chair up for this thread to learn more. It looks nice...and I assume you mean Gulf of Mexico right?

Did you get your own? Thatd be really cool getting your own LR. Whats also cool would be getting rock from local waters....no aiptasia or any Pacific-pests.

Yes..live on the west coast of FL but did not get this myself! Have a small LFS here who usually has nothing great. So I stopped in on Wed their fish day and he told me they were getting about 6/7 pieces in and he was going to try it. So after work Thurs. I stopped and he had just put it in his DT and I quickly grabbed 2 pieces that would fit. Most of the other were very large with even more growth on them. There seems to be so much stuff on them that I could turn them around daily and get a different view! Will take some more pics as they grow. Hopefully someday ID all the stuff.

Thanks guys/gals! I find myself watching that rock more than my fish. I just think its awesome when "rock" sprouts life-and then uses my tank as its potty.Kudos to turbo

+1 on the halimeda. It takes strong light, seems to do really well under 10000k or 15000k halides.The little clear guys are probably tunicates. The orange and red encrusting sponges are nice, but read up on their requirements 'cause if they die en masse, they will kill everything in your tank.
I'd like to get some more info on the particulars of collecting rock in the gulf. FWC says all collection of live rock is illegal, so how did your LFS obtain this rock? Just curious. I have a 75 FOWLR on the east coast of FL- water, LS, LR, inverts, anemones, fish all collected locally, and all my water changes are natural seawater. The LR I collected was either seeded( placed on the reef and allowed to colonize), or concrete rubble.
Make sure you don't have any caulerpa on there- you'll curse the day you put it in your tank!

Ohuh...I don't like the sound of that..do you have a clue how to search that stuff? My LFS fella probably doesn't/won't tell me the particulars anyway, but will ask next time I'm in there. But definately concerned now re: the rock :(
