you can say i am a BIG noob, being doing this for only a year. well here is my dilema. my tank has been running for about 13 months now. i have in tank 1 yellow tang and 1 blue hippo tang (had this guy for about 8 months and thriving, about 4inches) 2 maroon clowns (added 2/16/2005) and 1 cleaner shrimp and 1 long tentacle anemone.
tank specs:
55gal
about 30lbs live rock and 20 or 40lbs live sand (dont remember)
salinity is at 1.022
other parameters will be posted later
i know that when the anemone is healthy it should look tan or something like that and the foot was a bright red and now seems to be pinkish or some say orange
now for pics

sorry forthe crappy pics.....and sorry for being such a noob. i am just happy my blue tang has been doing good for so long. the anemone is my new goal and hopefully new home for the clowns.
i am using right now per what the LFS suggested.... coral-vite with essential elements and micro-vert for the anemone. hopefully this is good info!

How long have you had the anemone?
Has it been losing color since its been in your tank?
Have you been feeding it? if so what and how often?
240 or 260 watts seems kinda low for an LTA, even if the lighting were new and full spectrum. I normally suggest about 6 watts per gallon for LTA's. I'd personally get a 380 or 440 watt VHO over that size tank, then you would have something to play with.
Definatly feed it a couple of times per week. Yours seems to be rather light colored which could mean it may be bleaching. Not a good thing.

Thanks, I have only had it for 24 hours. Hopefully I am going to get someone from my LFS to come out and check out my tank.

The tentacles are on the lighter side...usually LTAs are closer to light amber brown in color...there are other colors too .... but your seems to have lost some zooxanthellae. But it looks nice and open. Plus its base seems to be dug into the sand. All good signs. Do keep an eye on its behaviour especially watch the mouth over the next few days. Hopefully the LTA will thrive and at that point I would definitely think of upgrading to VHO or MH.

My anemone ate a chunk of shrimp my local lfs gave me to try and now he is getting more tan and his tentacles are flowing around more actively. Woohoo, hopefully this is, looking into a new light setup now
