Hello fine people.
I too am getting ready to set up first salt tank and was reading what everyone had to say as to filteration and fish ..
i will be using RO water to start with so i may add a fish as soon as i can. was told in a day or two and a fish would be ok to add.
well nice reading and hope to see more in future.

Well if you understand i am getting ready to set means nothing has started yet.i have an understanding it will still have to cycle for a few weeks or so. i will be going for about 30/45 gal tank. fish only ,i live in tidewater area of Va. i have lfs just down the road. they have an ok supply.. better supply in nearby city. i also will be getting only damsel at first. as i understand they are a hardy fish.

there has nothing been baught yet. no tank no nothing.... im going to buy new tank and stand this weekend.haveing to buy part by part.....limited to money now..due to two little childern . i will be seeking out your advise once i start the tank and i will cont. to read even more about it all.

AMEN, Try doing a 125gal on a shoestring,and restoring a 36foot cris craft at the same time. My wallet HURTS..........STEVE

thanks for asking... i will be asking alot of questions . i have decide the tank will be 30 gal, with a skilter filer. and a crushed coral for the bed. and a summ. heater. thats all so far ill be picking it soon, unless a deal comes down from local trading post. with a deal i cant pass up. i know i need to get a water test kit and salt (not table,,lol)and have water going at first.. but to get cycle going?? how? with what?

Thirty gallon,I'd put about a four lb chunk of live rock and two green chromis. Id also use some cultured bacteria. The tank will cycle in about four weeks. The SKILTER is a good choise.I've got a 400 on my 40gal hospital tank. They are simple,and should do a great job on your thirty. With simple modifications the skimmer works great.Sounds like you got a good start figured out. STEVE

alter filter? ive was told i would to add an wooden air stone to skimmer as the one with was a litte underpowered to do job
