New Nano...Old Question

Hello all, I just set up a 20gal nano. 30lbs of LR and 25lbs of LS. I have an Aquaclear 70 running and a Coralife power compact. I am setting it up as reef only, suitable corals for the lighting system. I am confused as to the use/need for a protein skimmer. I, of course, want the water as clean as possible and have always thought a protein skimmer is a great additive/preventative....What skimmer for this nano, that won't break an already broken bank
will be effective-efficient. Anyone have any info-feedback on the Fission Nano PS? Thanks for the help.

I have a 29g biocube, and as long as you do weekly 10-15% water changes, you won't need a skimmer. My tank has been up since May 1st and my water readings have been perfect. I have done a little filter modification. Took out the bioballs and replaced with Seachem Matrix, Seachem Purigen bag, and filter/foam floss instead. Removed filter cartridge from it's chamber and placed it on top of the grate that the water flows down and into the filtering media. Everything else on my tank is what it came with. I just added my first corals last week and just started dosing with Reef Solution twice a week for now. The only other thing I add is Seachem Calcium when needed.

Give it some time and see how your levels are looking. If nothing is out of whack in say 6 months, then you shouldn't have to worry about a skimmer. If you really want to get one, then I'm happy with my aquaC remora. If you can use a hang on back type of skimmer, then I'd say this one has been worth my money at ~ $150.
Everything I have read about the fission skimmers has been pretty bad. Do a google search for reviews on it. There should be plenty of stuff out there to read.
