new nano tank 5 gal

I have had my 29g. FOWLR up and running for quite some time now. It is a straight berlin system. I recently bought a 5 g. and want to make a small nano. Just wondering what equipment I would need if I wanted to do it without a sump. I have some live sand in it now and it is cycling, do I need a hang on filter like a penguin or will just a powerhead do to keep it as a Berlin? Thanks.

I have nothing but some sand as of yet, I am letting it complete the cycle. Once it cycles i am going to build a canopy to house some lighting, prolly PC bring thats about all that would fit. I will decide that once i get to it. Thanks for the info.
