Im new here love the sight. I have recently got a 46 hex off craigs list overgrown with alge
But thats why He sold it. The tank has a Prisim skimmer, 3 power heads, Outer orbits MH light, Rena XP3 filter. Set up nice.
But after maving it i let it set a week then began to prune the alge back off the rocks and coral. I found several little White "sweeping" arms coming out of the rock. some even look like they have tubes like a Featherduster. 1 to 2 "arms" per tube or hole in the rock. none of them are more then a inch or so long, but I bet there are 5 or so of them in the tank. When i find my camara ill take a pic. They dont seam to sting the corals or mushrooms. but they do react to me if i tuch'em. Any ideas? Are they Bad? I have had just about all the bad hich hikers you can think of, this one is new to me

Thanks in advance for any help.

Spionids polychaete
Spionids are a family of small, thin polychaete worms that build their tubes from sand and other small particles. The Spionids pictured have two feeder tentacles that they stretch out to find food. They are beneficial scavengers that feed on detritus and small organic particles.

I have hundreds of them. In areas where they are hidden from the light, like cave openings, there are huge colonies, all you see are little white arms waving the in water. They eat anything that the fish won't touch. My cowfish, when its hungry, which is about 90% of the time, will blow at the sand, exposing their tubes, and then he will try to suck them out. Its kind of cool to see.

Not to highjack this thread or anything, but ajroc31, how do you keep a cowfish if it can release toxins?? I've alwayd thought they are really cool looking, but I was afraid to get one becuase it could kill everything in my tank.
