I just purchased an 80g tank today and am new to the saltwater part of it-as far as what fish won't kill each other- i REALLY want some kind of eel, but i want to include some fish with vibrant colors as well. what (if any) can co-exist in the tank without eating each other. is there an eel that won't eat fish that i put in there...any help would be appreciated, Thanks

With an 80 gallon I would say to have a decent filtration to avoid saying "man I should have done that to begin with".
As far as eels, go for a snow flake eel, with maybe a Cinnamon Clownfish, flame hawkfish, flame angel for some great corlor in the tank and maybe a couple other small fish.
good luck

thanks for the reply---sounds good as far as the snowflake eel, and clownfish. we really like angelfish, but i see most should be kept as the only angel in the tank. are there any other docile fish that can be kept in the tank (multiple)

in general any small tank should only house 1 angel to avoid aggression towards one another.. a potters angel is also a nice choice imo as opposed to the flame.

I have a 110g that is 72" long.
I have 2 percula clowns, a dwarf fuzzy lion, with a snow flake, a coral beauty and a sailfin.
I have only had the sfe for a week but he will not even nip at the other fish. I put several feeder guppies in the tank for the dwarf and the sfe wouldn't even nip at it. I feed him from a skewer with thawed frozen krill and he does great. Like I said though I haven't had him for long and who knows what will happen as he outgrows the percs and coral beauty.
Good Luck

I like the look of the potters, but people on here will tell you that they can't keep them alive for over a year. The flame angel and coral beauty are the typical angels that everyone talks about for that size tank. Another option would be a blackback butterflyfish, they are pretty cool looking.
I have a sfe right now, it's just a baby and I have him housed w/2 ocellaris clowns and there were 2 firefish but one died about 3 days ago. I'm not exactly sure why he died, but I do suspect the eel. The eel doesn't pay attention to the clowns because they move around a lot, but he always watches the firefish when he's hungry because they tend to hover. Hope that helps, I would say smaller fish are fine, but I'd go for some more active fish.
