Thanks. Back when I first got into the hobby... all I wanted to do was keep anemones and corals. I quickly killed 2 anemones, then I wised up. That was also about the same time I found this board. I've done a lot of reading over the last couple of years, and I know a lot more than I did back when I started out. Now I don't buy anemones... I have a very good relationship with my LFS. The guy that runs it knows that I know what I'm doing with my tanks. He gets about 10 carpet anemones each year (it's a small LFS that does usually deal with high priced, hard to keep animals). If any of them don't sell and/or start to deteriorate, he gives them to me half his cost. Depending on how bad they are, I can generally nurse them back to health. This is my 4th one... of the previous 3, one died, the other two I nursed back to health over a few months and sold to a couple of local reefers who know their way around a reef tank. As far as I know, both are still doing very well, just over a year after I got ride of them.
It looks like I'll be getting an S. Gigantea soon. My LFS has had it for about 2 months, it's very small and still healthy... but it won't hold up under 20w of NO light. The only problem is that I may be moving in March. I'm very hesitant to add any more to my tanks with a move on the horizon. I'm not sure I'll be able to sell the carpets before I move either, and I don't have room for 2 of them once they get big.
