Picked this guy up over the weekend. I got him in exchange for about 10 frags of Kenya Tree that was taking over my tank. Anyone have an exact ID on it? He's been in the tank 4 days now and seems to be doing great. I watched him get fed at the LFS on Sat morning and I fed him some chopped clam last night. Very cool to watch these guys eat!!!!

Long Tentacle Green Plate Coral, I'm guessing.
Unless the tentacles are at their max in that pic, then it might be a short tentacle...

That's about as long as I've seen them get so far. The thing is now expanding to almost twice the size it was in the store. Its an oval shape, about 4 inches by 6 inches and about an inch and a half tall not counting the tentacles which are about 1-1 1/2 inch each.

Heliofungia, hope your does well, they are considered difficult because most of them just up and die. I have three short tentacle but don't have the courage for one of those yet since I'd have to have it shipped it. More chance of damage. His tentacle will probably get longer and they get pretty big so leave space from other corals. Also I know the shorts can move around a little so keep an eye on it.

Good luck, I had one of those and it moved every time it inflated. I didn't realize it but one side had been damaged and it eventually died from it. I want oen again but i am nervous about the care.

I noticed last night that he had expanded so that he was kinda pressed up against the glass on one side and some rocks on the other so I moved some rockwork around and gave him about another inch on each side. I'll see how it looks when I get home tonight. I may have to rearrange things again if it keeps expanding. So far I've been spot feeding it with chopped clam every other day.

I give mine a piece of krill (with the shell removed) about once a week.

crab legs arent a good choice as they come cooked. you want to feed raw meat not cooked meat as cooking zaps a lot of the nutrition out of the food.

I give mine small bits of raw clam, raw shrimp, silver sides and even formula 1. Occasionally I will soak it in selcon too. And as I just found out, make sure you keep your plate coral on your sand bed.
