Hi guys! Been reading the boards for a while now and have learned so much. Still in the planning stage for my 125g FOWLR. Research, research!!! After getting zero response from my question in the New Hobbyist Forum, decided this might be where I would get my answer. I've read puffers and triggers will nip at stony corals. My question is this, I'd like to add some colorful artificial coral pieces to my tank. Will this be a problem with puffers and/or triggers? Thanks!

Define problem. I have a porc puffer and there is artificial coral in there with him. He has ripped a few pieces from the display coral but doesn't eat it. He is doing it less and less now, maybe he knows it's no better than biting the live rock (which he does). It won't be a problem as in it won't kill or hurt the fish. They will possibly take a few bites out of the coral to test it out.

Different fish, different aggression. Did you have fake coral in your tank saltfan? The type of puffer and trigger you have matter as well.

I definitely plan on porq. puffer. Not sure about the trigger yet. I'm a little leary after hearing of their dr. jekyll/mr. hyde personalities. Any suggestions on which would be best? Thanks for the info. I was concerned that the fake coral might hurt them. Glad to hear it won't.

Some of the more aggressive triggers have split personalities. Clowns and queens. Others are just plain evil like the undulated trigger. If you got a niger trigger or one close in temperment though, it's no worse than a puffer. It's still very nice looking, aggressive, and it's fun to watch it eat. I'd say that would be your best bet.

well I have always kept puffers sst puffer 3 1/2 yrs now a spiney boxfish puffer over 1 yr.they can be nibblers even on artificial decor .to help deture some of that from your decor i found both types of puffers love to chew on crushed coral.I keep a cc substrate in my aggressive for this reason alone and no I dont have amonia problems or nitrate problems this tank has been up for 4 1/2 yrs for aggressive fish its a better substrate all together due to its easy cleaning by shyphoning.if you decide to go with faux corals try keping only ones with thick parts not thin waving parts i tried this nce with the fax plants that looked so real and waved in the water flow. but 4 yrs later in still picking bits of it out of my tank my ss puffer shredded it.
