I have a 65 gal f/o tank that was finally ready for fish, so I purchased a pork. puffer and a v. lion fish yesterday afternoon (yea!) They appear to be healthy in apperance but niether one has eaten the frozen shrimp & krill the lfs sold me, the puffer seems hungry but will not touch the food (i have tried the stick approach too) he chases the damsel but it is too quick for him, the lion on the other hand just lays around ignores the food. My current is good so the frozen food appears to be alive but still no interest. Is this normal or should I go back to the lfs for advice or try live food? (although I would rather not get into that $ wise)
Please help a worried new comer!
Thanks!!!:help:

Contact the store and ask if either of those fish had been eating in the store, and if so ask what their diet was.
I wouldn't worry, most fish take a couple days to get settled, so if they dont eat in the next couple days it isn't alarming. If they aren't eating in three or four days, then you may need to try other things in their diet. The lion may have been fed live food in the store, so you may need to get some live ghost shrimp to feed him.
Also, if you add garlic to their food it may entice them to eat, Kent makes a Garlic additive that works well

Thank you! I asked the store and they said they were being fed frozen and occassionally live, I tried the garlic & they seem curious but still not eating. I guess I will try live and see what happens. Thanks again!
(any/all advice on my new tank is appreciated!)

I had to feed all three of the lions i've owned live food for the first week. They took to it almost immediately. I fed live food, very frequently, for one week.
I then did not feed the lions for a week, no matter how hungry they acted.
At the end of that week, I attempted thawed frozen foods - krill and silversides to be specific. At first I used a feeding stick to get it close to the lions, that was day 1 of feeding. Day 2 I dangled the thawed krill at the top of the tank until a lion caught sight of it, as he came up towards it I let it go, it was caught by the powerhead's current and started moving. The lion followed and nailed it. This got them used to knowing when the top was open to start looking in the powerhead's current. Eventually after a few days every time the tank top opened the started hunting by the current.
It got so funny that eventually they ate EVERYTHING that went into the tank. It was hilarious when one was in QT and I dropped in an antibiotic tablet to treat it, the lion sucked the pill into his mouth, paused for a second, and then spit it out. They'll eat anything once you train their feeding response and they realize you = food.

It has been 3 days and niether the puffer or lion has eaten much, I saw the puffer eat a shrimp but then spit it out, I tried the garlic so I guess I will try live even though the store said they fed them frozen. The puffer is starting to act a lil' sickly...Yikes!
(any and all advice is welcome!)
