I got my new Reef Octopus DNW-200 Recirc Protein Skimmer, the other day. I noticed the water level is right underneath the black collar, where the skimmer cup connects to the body. Is that normal?

Attached pic shows what I'm talking about....Thanks!

that skimmer doesn't need a gate valve mod, you adjust it by closing or opening the wedge pipe on the output flow of the skimmer.

raise it a little more until its flush or just below the top of the black collar and let the foam head build up the collection cup tube, then adjust as needed after a foam head begins to build.

Yea, I've been playing around with it a little bit more. I found by closing the wedge pipe that seemed to do it. Got any recommendations on where to find non-standard size PVC piping? I'm trying to extend the return pipe into my sump, having the hardest time finding the right size coupling and extra piping to do this.. HD does not have the size to fit, nor can I reduce it down to make the pipes fit..Any suggestions?

I beleive, if i remember correctly, that you use 1 1/4 coupling over the metric pipe, then go with regular pvc from there. You have to use the heavy bodied pvc cement to fill it in around the pipe though.
