New refugium quesiton

I have a 90 drilled overflow. the wet dry came with a overflow attachment for tank thats arent drilled. Now i was wondering if i could use that to send the water to the refugium that is lower then the main tank.. then pump the water from the refugium back into the sump. My question is would the water going into the hang on over flow flood the refugium? because for it to be level wouldnt the pump out of the refugium have to match the overflow??

Reefman, use a Rio 1700 as the return pump carguy has the same setup and seems to be running well. By the ways, no i wont have the caulerpa on friday but within a few weeks i will have a bunch.

and it depends you can adjust the flow on the overflow with a ball valve, if thats really nessecary, or you can adjust it by moving the box up, for less intake or down for more, but it won't overflow, the overflow can only siphen as much as it can use

The flow rate of ANY overflow is only as great as the return pump you are using..It will only syphon water out of the tank as fast as the pump is returning it,up to the overflows max flow rate..You should NEVER try to restrict the flow AT THE OVERFLOW(supply).Any adjustments/restrictions(valves) should be done on the return line. That is the line from the sump/refugium to the tank.Trying to regulate the water flow in the overflow/supply line WILL result in the pump draining the ref/sump,overflowing the tank, and possibly burning up your return pump.....

you have to remember.. this is going to a refugium, i already have a drilled tank that an over flow goes to my wet dry, thats why i am worried about the water going to fast

Reefman,
I think I'd just tee off of the supply line and install a valve inline, then if you have room raise your refugium above the level of your sump and use the overflow to gravity feed back into the sump...that way you could control the amount of flow into your fug and not have to worry about it going dry.

Reread that last post,He said you could install a Tee in the supply line going into your sump. Then add a valve on this Tee.Then a hose on the valve. This will supply the refugium. You can then adjust the flow with the valve. Then setup a seperate overflow in the refugium to get the water out of the refugium, back into the sump.....
