I went to the lfs (Jacks) to get one of my rocks back because I had to return a brittle starfish and he wouldn't come out.

They gave me a new LR to replace mine after i described to them why the star loved that piece as much as I.

Here is a pic of the Rock :jumping:
Another pic of my purpleback examining it, which he hasn't stopped doing since I added it. :happyfish
And finally another pic of my sad lighting for my sump atm.

I do want to know how easy it is to mount lighting and what type of lights should i get for my sump which has algae, snails, and mangroves in it.
Thanks,... and WHO DEY: I'm not going back to Jacks fyi

I totally forgot about the question I REALLY wanted to ask.
This new rock I just got has some spiderweb looking stuff on it.
What is it?

nope, but it looks like white mold that you see on bread. In the pic of the new rock, it is where you see the red at the top of the rock in the crevice.

My gf doesn't like brittle stars, worms, or eels. So I had to let it go.

Personally, I would lose the gray chunk on the left. Will Never be beneficial because it is smooth. The "lace rock" is ok but is not that porous. You need some real live rock in there. I would also change the crushed coral to live sand now while you can. Just my thoughts from my experience.

The rock on the left looked a lot better out of the tank. I don't know what "lace rock" is. The backs of all the larger pcs of rock are very porous on the back but don't look so good until the LR grows on it.
How am i going to change the crushed coral to live sand without clouding the tank and stressing the fish out. :help:

Empty the tank is never easy. But alot of people on here will tell you that it is easier to do now rather than later. CC was my biggest newbie mistake and am glad I changed it out. I had CC 18 years ago in my sw tanks and could never keep anything alive. I now know why.

Could I add live sand to the cc? or do i have to take it totally out?

Totally out. The sand would settle down into the cc. Best just to make that unwanted journey. There are people that like cc but Not many. It's hard to keep clean looking, you cannot vacumn it because you will suck up beneficial bacteria so it just collects waste. And it limits your bottom dwelling critters and fish.
