New Rockwork (please comment)

I had to tear down my rock to get at my camel shrimp tonight. In the struggle, I did a complete rearrange. Please look at these photos and tell me what you think. All the critters are hiding.

This is the old rock formation for comparison...which do you like better? The old formation (this pic) or the new formation (first pic).

man i just remodled my tank last night. woooohooo. it was exilirating. i tore out the UGF added 60lbs of LSand 30lbs of LR. and i tore off the backing papre stuff and sprayed the back of my tank matte black....wow it looks endless.
i bet you had fun after you were done!? because it is like getting a whole new tank. sorry bout this but i am very excited about mine and wanted to vent it toyou. ill attach picks later. i like the unorganized pyramid look. most tanks ive seen lately look too.......i cant put my finger on it but too much of something. good work

what fish do you have in the 55? and is that 2 whispers in the back or tetra? just looked at the pics again and yeah i like'em not too high and not too many holes IMO.
i got one whisper would another really help? i was thinking on doing the skilter 400 insttead because it is a bit of both and wont break my bank. is it worth it. or should i just save and go big? sorry about this jumpin around.

I know the feeling! I was very exciting redoing the rockwork. I'm sure you are about to burst moving from CC to LS. The difference is night and day and I know you are going to love it.
The black background was a wise move. Just like you said, mine makes the tank seem twice as big. Good luck with your new setup.
ps- don't you hate the feeling that you may have smooshed a critter though?

Those are two hang-on-the-back 330gph power filters. The brand name is Regent. I have the filter media removed and in its place I have nylon stockings full of live sand.
I also have three 170gph powerheads from Aqua-tech. The skimmer is 90gph but is a piece of junk.
My flow rate is 1260gph or 23x. This is almost max for a reef tank (25x). I think my pristine water conditions are due to the high flow rate.

i found a few after the end. that was sad but i guess "its all for the greater good" i killed a few hermits and a few snails and also found a little octopus that i had no idea was there!? but now no more CC or nasty looking UGF. and woah that is a much prettier tank. my pajama cardinal passed on today..........................................................that was the moment of silence. he was in my QT and started to refuse to eat. and then this morning i was going to try to acclimate him back and he was belly up. i was ticked. i had no idea and he had only not eaten the night before. i didnt even see his breathing go up or anything.

oh well i took a hit yesterday but my tank is all new and the levels are great. no ammonia or nitrites or nitrates peaked or even went up at all. so no cycle? oh yeah and about the tetra filter or a skilter any advice or comments?

I'm sorry to hear about your pj cardinal. I was thinking about getting a few of those because they look like a monster in a game I play (World of Warcraft).
As far as your filter question.... please tell me each piece of equipment you have now and how many gallons per hour of water it pumps. I can make a much better recommendation from there. Also tell me what critters you have.

SORRY
whisper filter (on back) 400 gph
2 powerheads180gphx2=360
THATS IT. im not too far along yet.
ive got a blue devil damsel 50 hermits 20 snails, 5 brittle stars (smaller ones), 4 small crabs, two featherdusters, 2 sea cucumbers, 2 coral banded shrimp, and a partridge in a pear tree. there is more but i dont what to call them
it is bad to have coral out here...not inverts like these guys so ive got them a plenty. ive even started stocking my LFS on trade. im building a nice account and trying to get enough for some replecements for my losses.
can you have too many inverts?
yeah i love the cardinals? want a bangaii soon. but i love how they just hover.

You've got about 14x turnover right now. You really should pump it up to 20x since you've got an abundance of ivertebrates. A good, cheap way to do so is buy a hob power filter. You can usually get a 300+ gph one for under $40. Just take the carbon pad out and use it for water flow.
Do your coral banded's get along together? Are they a breeding pair? I've heard nothing but bad news about having more than one of those. Make sure you have lots of things pooping for those sea cucumbers to eat. I am assuming they are detrivore cukes.
50 hermit crabs for a 55 gallon tank is a huge amount! Ever consider downsizing to around 25 so that the cucumbers have something to eat?

well one ate the other and i think that she is pregnant. mating is never as good for the men in NAture they always die. this is the second pair ive had but shrimp zilla got so big last time that she ate a damsel of mine. she went back in the ocean pretty quick after that. but yeah coral bandeds dont get along even mated apirs eventually end up one dead.
WELL then i will have to takethe hermits back out there. (my daughter finds them gets excited and puts them in the tank for me)
or should i put the sand in the other filter that im gonna buy soon? or just leave it there for flow? or would just keeping the carbon be better?
my cucumbers are very small, and they have a "crown" like the dusters...what are they?

Fellas..If you don't mind I have to jump in a sec. I'm in the beginning of the research phase for a tank I always wanted and suddenly now have it.
I can't believe how much I just learned by reading this thread. The pics look awesome so I'm thinkin just paint the back glass now for the realism affect and sense of depth? It looks like outer space.
The re arrangement looks even better. Thanks for the peep.
You also got me thinking real serious about what my flow rate will need to be for this 125gal.
It was prevsly set up as a fresh with an EHEIM 2217 filter 1000 L/H. and two HOB PH's 500 l/h ea with an UGF.
If i'm doing this right all together it's 2000 L/H which equals 529 G/H. So does this mean my flow rate is 4.2times?
(I might be wrong about the PH's output, I don't have the dets)
player, what kind of livestock do you have in there that we can't see? BTW you are getting better with your pics though.

I HOPE YOU HAVENT SET THE TANK UP YET!? the UGF is a terrible creation for salt water tanks. i just took multiple hours for me to remove the ugf and reset the tank. luckily my tank didnt cycle again. is your tank set up yet? (xapfmralty)
