Just picked her up thrusday for a species specific seahorse tank my girlfriend and I are working on for her birthday...a hippocampus whitei. Shes eating great, mysis shrimp dipped in selcon right out of my tongs. Very active. She was farm born and raised and we're very happy with her. Cant wait to get her a couple more friends! Its pretty interesting, shes pretty much white, but photographs yellow. Her sides are almost iridescent under actinic.
Interesting fact: she poops purple, i thought that was strange considering i don't feed her anything purple. Any thoughts on that?

Pretty sweet. I just picked up a pair yesterday as well my first ponies. Mine are black however. And photograph black. Haha. And I don't see any pp (purple poop) but I'll keep my eyes open.

Wow, she's beautiful. What size tank do you have her in? I'm currently in the process of getting my 37 gallon established enough to get a pair of h-erectus...I figure it will be ready in mid to late June. The pods in there are nuts though...they're all over the place and growing in population!! Hopefully that'll make for some happy little ponies when I get them.

She is in a 8gal biocube. Recommended density for whitei is 30L (7gal) per couple. As soon as she starts to get bigger we'll move up to a larger tank. I'm thinking a 30gal tall hex.

atm she is only 2 inches. i was worried about erratic changes in water values with such a small volume, but everything has been holding at stable levels since her introduction. all the rock and water was from established larger reefs. i check the water twice a day to be sure, any problems and ill immediately drip her into my larger tank.

she has a big heart, every time my girlfriend comes up to the tank, ariel (the sh), does a dance for her... and then they both put their noses up to the glass, its really cute. the tank is on our nightstand next to the bed, and she even sleeps on the bed side of the tank so my girlfriend can watch at night. they're best friends already!
