new setup advice needed

i am planning on upgrading to a 125 gal. tank. could someone give me advice on the right size equipment to use for a tank this size. would this require a sump and what is exactly the sole purpose of a sump. is it so you don't have alot of stuff hanging off your tank, so your tank looks better. what size sump would be necessary. semi- new to this hobby. thanks

i just upgraded to a 125g about 2 weeks ago. It is not a reef ready tank. I added 50 lbs of Southdown, 60 lbs of LS and 90 lbs of Fiji LR. I have a 3 Maxijet1200 PH's, 2 300W heaters and a Seaclone 150. Do a search for my name and you'll get tons of recent information from the experts here. Good Luck.
