Shrooms do filter feed, but they can also be spotfed. It's kind of cool how they close up into a ball around the food.
If you want really big shrooms, spotfeed them at least once a week.

If you want big shrooms, keep your eye on them that they won't get one of your fish. My shroom ate my scooter blennie about 2 to 3 weeks ago. the shroom is about 6" across

Shrooms are not filter feeders........
I have been feeding my mushrooms for a few years now. NOt that they need selective feeding or spot feeding as they do get food from their photosynthesis periods as well as what happens to land on them and migrate to their mouth. I routinely feed (try for feeding each and every mushroom or other coral that is PS types but will take pices of food, to get a spot feed of at least one time a week. It does make a difference. Can individual feeding be eliminated.........yes, is it necessary, no, does it really benefit the corals.yes it does.
I feed frozen foods or pelleted foods. After all fish are fed and the frenzy dies down, I place a few pellets or other food directly on the shroom as close to its mouth as possible. In seconds it balls up and consumes the food. I use a spot feeder to place pellets on the shrooms etc. Its home made out of a modified hypodermic syringe, that loads like a BB gun and holds probably 100 pellets of food, so its easy to reach each coral and dispense a few pellets out on each. I use sinking pellets. I can also pack it with frozen food mush and spot feed that just as easy.

I always have to make sure my cleaner shrimp is good and fat before I feed my shrooms. Otherwise, he'll go over to them and pick all the food from them.

Please explain how its possible to have a cleaner shrimp be satisfied when it comes to food.
Mine all have bottom less pits. They virtually crawl in head first into a huge hairy shroom for food. IMNSHO shrimp are all theives and there is no satisfying them.

Here is an image of the pellet type spot feeder I made. It can easily be made longer as you can eaily join the plastic plunger type rods and the ouoter tube comes in 36 inch long lengths at the lfs. Same for hypodermic syringe, it can be any size really from a insulin syringe to a 100 cc syringe.
