I got this over the weekend. I'm not sure how it is supposed to look. I've seem pictures on this site and mine doesn't look like those. I think it may be it is getting used to the tank but not sure. What do you think?

Thanks for the suggestion. I had heard that but am not sure how to do it. Do you put the baster right up to the mouth and it will open to take the shrimp? Do you have to be careful around the mouth?

i have this same plate coral, my tomato clown has taken up with it ,he never leaves it's side, my coral has raised up and created a cave under it, and my tomato clown goes under it as soon as the lights go off.
this is my favorite coral, i feed all my coral and fish, shrimp twice a week i just release it in the water and it floats down to it, the plate coral will actually catch it on it's tenticals and move it towards it's mouth(which it will open very wide) and stuff about 10 to 15 shrimp in it's mouth before he closes it. you should probably go ahead and feed it first with the baster to fatten it up a little, then you can either just release the shrimp in the water or continue to feed it with the baster if you want.
congratulations on a great coral

Thanks Melissa. I tried the baster method tonight and it did take a couple of pieces of mysis. I'll continue to do this so I can fatten it up. I hope mine gets to the point where it will grab the shrimp. That sounds like it is cool to watch.

bterry29,
it is cool to watch, yours will in time, when i bought mine i was clueless, i didn't even know enough to feed the poor little thing, it's a wonder it didn't starve to death (now i read, read, read, before i buy anything, it was when i first started out and i just bought because it was pretty, what a moron i was). how big around is yours i can't tell from the pic, mine is about 6 inches around. it has grew alot, but i can't tell it has grown unless i look at pictures of it when i first got it, now i take a pic everytime i buy something new, the pic also helps you see how well it is doing, from when you first bought it, (or how bad).
congratulations again.

I feed it whole pieces of krill, just lay it near its mouth and the tentaticles will direct it towards its mouth. Here is a pic of it swelled up and later I will post of it feeding.

Wow - that is really nice looking. Were the pictures taken under actinics or is that the natural color of your plate?

Just thought I would post another picture of my plate coral. I think it is doing fine. Seems healthy to me anyway. Comparing it to the first pic I took it looks like it is getting used to the tank. It has been a good subject for taking pictures.
