Well I am bored tonight, had a great day outside finishing the baby chicken coop and I even had time to put together a stand for a 120 gallon tank I acquired recently. Here is a pic.

Glad to see you taking care of your outdoor fish.

Get some really good pics of the stand as you build it. I'm planning on starting a 125 build next year. :D

I can do basics, I'm pretty handy at carpentry. I've built quite a few stands. I'm just looking for some new, fresh design ideas for the finish work.

Sounds good Snake, when I build my stands I always joint the top and bottom edges to get the framing lumber as true as possible. It seems to work for me, you might loose an 1/8 or 3/16 of an inch across the width but having square lumber is key. I will also with the 120 put 1/4" foam under the tank.

Are you going to put a 2X4 floor in that or are you going to leave it like that? It would be nice to have the extra room under the tank that is for sure. How tall did you make it?

Flat on the floor - stand is 36" high - it is going behind a couch. No 2x4 on floor - I lag bolt the back to the wall and adjust the front for level if required - I usually skirt it with a piece of 3/4 if needed.

Hi Al! Can you take a birds eye view pic of your stand? What type of wood did you use? That looks sharp and clean. Everything plum?

(sorry for the twenty questions)

I will send a picture out later. This is just standard contruction 2x5's and 2x4's. I joint the edges to make them more true nd by doing that you loose the rounded edges from the milled lumber. Well I was thinking of painting it dark brown but plum would be nice, LOL. The stand is very plumb.

Snake over on RC there is a thread where everyone shows off their stands and canopies.....definitely a good place to start and pull ideas from. Heck I remember seeing a motorized light lift and stole the motor out of my old garage door opener for the project!!!
