New sump questions

I have a 90 gallon tank and am thinking about installing a 20 gallon long sump. I know nothing about sumps so I need some input on things that I will need to make this happen.

water drains from DT to sump. While in sump, it can fill a space in which some critters or plants can take refuge (hence the name refugium). Also while in sump, it can be filtered or cleaned by whatever means you choose, but eventually it gets pumped back up to the DT.
The possibilities for how you design your sump are myriad.
All you need are:
- aquarium grade silicone
- something to use as baffles - - - cutting boards, plexiglass, or glass.
- filter media
- a pump
- a protien skimmer
- a heater
- and lastly,
- a good imagination and a wee bit of D.I.Y. handiness.
I am re-doing my plumbing. When I get my closed loop done, I'll move on to the sump. Here's what I am thinking so far.....
