New tank filters?

I have i 46 gal. tank that i want to make into a reef tank. What type of filters are better, sump, canister or something else?

It seems that the new trend in reef tank filteration is filtering with lots of live rock and at least 4" of live sand.no additional filter is needed...If I was to set one up this is the way I would try it...

I just use Liverock and DSB in my 65G i have an eheim 2213 just for mechnical filtration.
