New tank, new stocking

Set up a 55 gal tank using my old 30, and I'm looking for reef-safe stocking list.
So far all I have is a spotted mandarin, eating frequently (gets a copepod every 5 seconds or so, from what I heard this is ideal)
Planning on adding a pair of percs, a fire goby (maybe a pair), and a royal gramma.
Any suggestions?
Been told that a 4 ft long 55 gal is enough for a Yellow Tang, but I have my doubts on this.

I would skip the tang. Your judgement on the issue is correct; tangs definitely outgrow 55's.
I like your stocklist so far. A really exquisite fairy wrasse would make a nice addition to your list as well. Gobies are always an awesome addition fish for reefs as well. Green clown gobies are one of my favorites. Cardinals make for a great reef fish as well. A pair of tank raised banggai cardinals could be another idea as well.

I think they say 6ft of swim room is ideal for tangs.
I would get a pair of firefish im regetting not doing this right now, they are a schooling fish and are kinda skidish imo all by themselves

4 feet is wide enough for tangs if you also have the depth to give them swimming room. a 48 x 24 footprint would be good for the smaller tangs, but not a 48x12 footprint.
personally i've for a 60x30x20 tank in the planning stages that should be good for 2-3 tangs

A friend is giving me his mated watchman gobies tomorrow, with a red striped goby and a few corals (he soled his tank).
Anybody know if the mated gobies can coexist with a pistol shrimp like if they were alone, or would the fact that their paired up make it difficult?

how about a flame angel? I love the color. My royal gamma always hid and rarely ever saw him... boo....
