I live in Cleveland and the tap water here is horrible. If I fill my tank with half RO and half tap, will that be OK? Also, after the cycle is done, do I do a 50% water change? Thanks.
If your tap water is that bad, I would do the whole thing in RO. Why chance it?
Go easy on the water changes...50% is a lot. I do 20% every 3-4 weeks. If your levels are good after your tank cycles, you don't necessarily need to start with a water change.
Why use any tap at all? I'm not in your area but around here I fill up 5 gallon jugs at the little kiosk filter thingies for .75 per 5 gallons. I'd recommend spending the extra couple of dollars to ensure success without creating any avoidable problems.
