I doubt you would be the only one. The post office might like this tax because I bet people would revert to paying bills through the mail again (for those that do everything electronically like myself).

I put everything on the credit card and just make one payment a month but I suspect it wont matter cash or check, every financial transaction other than buying stock which I thought was very interesting.

This remind of me of the brilliance of simplicity which the great Ronaldous Maximus was so good at. In one of his speeches, he posed the question. If you as a parent are trying to teach your kid about being responsible with money, but he consistently squanders the money why would you increase his allowance? Instead you should stop giving him any money and remove his choice in the matter. The same is true with government... Why should we continue giving money to government, when they consistently fail in the management of that money?

Just on the face of it we have another example of government largess gone wild. We already have a tax system, and it's associated bureaucracy in place to levy and collect taxes. Why in the name of all that's holy would we want to create yet another taxing authority complete with a whole new bureaucracy to support?
I remember when the California sales tax was 5%. Now it's closer to 10% in some counties. Yeah, I wanna give the feds the chance to do that to us. That is something that is lost on most people. Revenues from a sales tax will rise with inflation thus any increase in the percentage is a symptom of government growth beyond that of the population.
