New to acrylic building

Ok here goes. I have built glass tank before but I am venturing into acrylic. First off the tank will be 36x18.75x24 and I have calculated that I will need to use 3/8" material. Is this right? I also wanted to ask a question about the corners. I have been told that you have to use braces on the inside of the corners. True? Also how can I round the edges or should I just leave 'em squared and cover em with trim? Thank you all.

If I understand your measurements correctly the tank is 24 tall? If so I would go 1/2 inch thick at least. Actually either way I would prolly go 1/2 inch thick.
You can make the corners rounded, you need to get a heat stripe and then you can bend it to the correct angle. As far as braces in the corners Im not sure exactly what you mean, but you do need a top on the tank in which you ahve holes cut out of the top.
Honestly its prolly cheaper to just buy one prebuilt. When I was going to custom build my sump it was much cheapter to buy a truVue rebuilt.

yes 3/8 would be thick enough. Your measurements are almost exactly what I requested for my sump and got quoted 375-420 for the acrylic, check out the 'cages' place usually great prices.

As far as cost it is going to be around $165 total for supplies and all. I think the savings are worth building it myself.
