hi I read on a couple websites that you need to use super glue or toothpicks to hold your coral in place on a rock is that true or can you just sit them on a rock and they will be fine thanks

they will be fine if you just set them on the rock, however things like inverts and sometimes fish can come by and knock them off. So in the long run it is best to secure them with glue or a stock or something like that.
I have a few glued down, but for the most part i just trie to wedge the base between a crack in the rock.
It all depends on the coral, and if it is on a plug or not. It's kind of a case by case basis.

Any coral that is ALREADY
on a piece of rock can be glued to a larger rock. You can't glue the coral itself, they slime up.
For a loose coral such as xenia, or mushrooms: place near other rocks or rubble of rocks, in a low flow area so it doesn't get blown away and they will attach themselves. Then you can glue the piece now attached to a larger rock.
On xenia you can take a toothpick and lay it across a rock and secure with a rubber band to hold it down, after it attaches remove the rubber band and toothpick. It will leave a scar on xenia if you use the toothpick method.

you can glue the base of a stony coral, such as a caulastrea where there is no longer soft tissue down low, jus the stony skeleton.
