New to corals-are gloves needed

I just read that I should be wearing gloves when I am in my tank. Is this true? I am just beginning with corals and I have ordered a zoo polyp and I read they sting. I have a few mushrooms too. Is this good advice? I really don't want to get stung, OUCH! Thanks in advance for any advice. :cheer:

Always good to wear gloves ..... Besides the corals, you never know what kind of hitchhikers you may have. :D

Honestly, I dont wear gloves when I handle my Zoanthids in the tank....although I should. When I need to take them out of the tank (i.e. fragging, catching a Nudibrach, etc.) I use latex gloves w/o the powder.

I never used to. never got stung (that I know of)...Some people are a bit more sensitive than others (like bee stings). I have seen people get stung from things that don't cause me problems, but cause "them" a great deal of grief. The flip side is introducing something into the tank from your hands like soap or lotion etc. These things even in minute form can cause problems. I have been putting on gloves now for the past few months..they are cheap enuf, and heck better be safe than sorry... shop around buy a box of 100, alot cheaper than dead corals or fish..or a medical bill. My 2 cents though, Most stuff wont hurt ya..no need to enter your tank with big fears...

I believe that Coralife makes a set of gloves that go past your elbow. Might be something to look in to.

I bought those special gloves for aquariums that go past your elbow (cost me almost $30!) and the problem is they're pretty thick, so handling anything in the tank is virtually impossible. You have no sensitivity in your hands and have no idea what you're handling, how hard you're squeezing it, etc. I bought some ugly yellow rubber "kitchen" gloves (or toilet gloves or whatever) and they're much better as far as sensitivity is concerned becasue they're thiner and thighter, and I believe they make them in different lengths.
