hey guys, im about to start getting into corals, and i was just wondering if some people could help me out with just the basics of corals. i am looking to start off with easy stuff, mushrooms and zoos, i have done a fair about of research and i know i have good enough lights, good enough flow, 890gph in a 75 gal tank, and reef safe fish/inverts. what else is there to consider? what do i feed them? how do i feed them? when i get them, do i just set them where i would like them and they stay there? do they move around the tank ever? are they ok to touch aka- not going to sting me or something? these are just some of the questions that come to mind... any advice on any of these ?'s would be great. thank you.

well, congratz on starting the doral fever lol but anyway for new corals i would suggest cjili coral, any ricordea mushrooms or any mushrooms at all. i would also suggest a brain coral. as for puttin stuff in the water i put the recomended amount of kent marine calcium in my aquarium every day. i also put the recomended amout of kent marine iodine in every day and every 4 days i put the recomended amount of kent marine stronium and molebentium sorry about the spelling im realy tired and im on pure caffine right now lol
most people say the chili coral requires spot feeding but ive had mine for a while and he just catches some food every now and then. but spot feeding is always nice, im nto saying im against it. also make sure fish are reef safe before you get them. and for the toutchign part. NEVER TOUTCH A CORAL WITH YOUR BARE HANDS even if it isnt bad for you, you are bad for them (not you personally) your body produces oiles and the oils are bad for coral. and when fragging corals ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GEAR LIKE GOGGLES AND GLOVES becaue some of them have horrible toxins in them. good luck with corals and once you et them you wount stop getting them lol

What type of lighting do you have? And, what type of corals are you interested in keeping? 890ph of flow isnt going to be enough to keep SPS corals. You need around 20X your tank size in flow for these guys.

forgive my ignorance... "sps" means....? my lighting is 2x65 pc/2x65 actinic, i know its not the most powerful kit, but i also know its not bad, im looking to keep mushrooms, zoos, polyps, and leathers... i say this pretty much only because after all the research i have done, it seems these are the least light demanding corals. any info/suggestions on these corals would be great. do you think i need to up my water circulation to keep these?

SPS is Small Polyp Stoney Corals they need strong lights and strong flow. Your flow is good for what you want. With your lighting you should be able to keep a lot of Large polyp stoney (LPS) as well such as frogspawn, hammer, torch, bubble etc...
