New to saltwater tanks

Just from reading other posts, we already have a leg up on what we need to focus on..... We have a 150 gallon that we are changing over to salt.... Though we never had a salt tank we do know a little of what we should do, but need to learn alot more before we put any live stock in there.... right now we are still at step one... he just added the salt yesterday and we ordered a wet/dry bio filter with skimmer, right now we have 2 whisper 3s and a fluval 204 canister filter, 2 penguin 170 mph power heads and one larger powerhead.... we added it all up and it was around 10 times the water flow.... He wants to get 2 more powerheads as well... we haven't yet added the sand, the LFS did not have enough so we ordered it and it comes in this week.... we got 200 pounds...... How are we doing so far... when should we add LR ... any suggestions? :notsure:
When it comes time to put in live stock how do I figure out what lives well with what?
I want lots of inverts like crabs and shrimp......Anything weird or interesting.... The purpose of this tank is to help us all relax more , so I want a large community of creatures in this tank...... We was also thinking of putting a divider in the tank so we can have 2 different types of communitys(I do so love eels).....I know for sure we need more lighting and think maybe later on we can get rid of the whisper filters and add more power heads?... Anything else we should be doing?..... Any help would be great..... :help:
Interested in learning all we can from the board posts...

Welcome to the boards!!!
It sounds like you are on the right track, which i s a good thing!!
You are going to have to cycle your tank. There are several ways of doing this. What i would do, is buy some uncured LR, and cure it in your tank. This does 2 things. Gets you cheap LR, and will start teh cycle on your tank!! a win-win situation!!
you are going yo wnat your SG to be atleast 1.025 if you are doing inverts. They are fun....
Good luck, Merry Christmas, and Welcome!!

Circulation depends on what fish u put in. generally, FOWLR u want 15x turnover rate.
