Hey folks.I am 26 I work in a local resteraunt and as you can see below I love pets in shaoes and sizes. I have been checking out the site for about a week now. I am part of a few other boards and this one gives good advice and fairly well mannered ( some of you know the type pf boards that I refer to). I have been in Fish keeping for some time started with oscars and guppies and about a year ago I started looking into SW and reefs. most of my tanks now are SW but I still cant get away from FW . at the moment I have several tanks.
1 55 gal with fancy oranda goldfish ( soon to be a planted tank.
1 50 gal SW reef with various little creatures LR/LS skimmerless ( yes I know but its working for me if you are setting up a tank and are not sure please read up but most people will swear by a skimmer others like myself want to deveate from the norm and try new things but if you are new completly to SW take the advise and get good equipment including a skiimmer)
1 yellow tang
2 velvet damsels
1 saddle back clown
1 stripped damsel
1 bicolor chromis
1 green brittle star
1 black and gold brittle star
2 flame scallops
1 little crab that doesnt seem to get the hint I dont want him there and wont take a baited trap
1 rock flower anemone
3 condy anemones
1 bta anemone
1 torch coral
1 colony of soft green star polyps
several fuzzy mushrooms
and some flat mushrooms
1 20 gal SW LR/CC skimmerless
1 CC star
1 jensen wrasse
2 blue damsels
1 maroon clown
1 large hermit crab
1 29 gal FW
6 angels
assorted cory cats
plecos
1 30 gal SW just set up waiting on cycle before stocking
1 20 gal FW
1 red ear water turtle
1 albino water frog
1 5 gal FW with baby bettas
1 10 gal SW QT tank
1 10 gal FW QT tank
Wish list
200 gal reef + fish
200 gal reef only
45 XTL for angels
180 agg tank ie lions puffers eels not sure yet
My zoo also includes
1 rot sheppard mix
1 mutt
1 pair of chuauaus ( babys on the way)
1 pit bull
1 cockatiel
Sorry so long but as you can see I like my animals and like to include all or nothing..
I am looking forward to possibly helping some out and others helping me out. just remember that they are living creatures and treat them as such.
thanks and Good luck to all

hey micachael, wellcome to the BB; true most have been/are well mannered compared to other BB of this type;there is also a lot of good advice given and plenty of experienced peops in here always ready/willing to lend a helping hand; course, never hurts to add another one to the list (would have said to throw another shrimp on the bar B, but feared the flaming)
I would like to enquire more info about your velvets whether you had problems w/ them such as being more diseas prone so I have heard;
also, how long have you had your flame scallops & are they doing well & what you do to take care of them???

the velvet damsels have been in the tank from about a month after I started it up I havent had any problems as far as fungus, parasites, or bacterial/ virus based illnesses from them they are more aggresive than the other damsels in my opinion. they dont like the company of more than one in a tank though (but they may just be exceptions) but each has staked a claim one on each side of the tank and leave each other along now.
I started my tank as most with the advice of the LFS and well have changed alot since. ie CC to DSB then I stocked quickly after the cycle but was very lucky I have only lost 1 bicolor angel which after researching I know supposed to do that first LOL but learn and dont do it again that they werent a good buy for a closed system..
the 2 flame scallops were the same soon after the cycle I plopped them in I thought I was going to loose them they closed up and very seldom opened up but after a couple of months as the tank matured they started to open up more and more. as of right now they have been in the tank for 1 year+. I have not target feed or anything for them I just leave them be in the tank. I started out a year ago adding kent marine iodine, calcium and another food type additive but after about 2 weeks I quit and have added nothing to the tank other than top off water. I read of people that have bad sucess with scallops but I havent. a freind of mine bought 1 when I bought mine and hers died about 2 months afterwards. makes me wander that maybe being skimmerless gives them more nutrients and foods to eat than in a tank with a skimmer or that is being over skimmed..
food for thought ..
any other questions I will be more than happy to tell ...
Michael

Welcome to the site Michael.
You should know you are not the only one that goes skimmerless. To be honest, I think my corals (mushrooms) and fish do better without one!
Sounds like you have a real zoo there! I know what you mean about the freshwater tanks....I still have a 29g community with a mated pair of angels, and I just recently had to start up the 5g again, this time for a rogue male ram that is a mean little bugger!
