New to SW: powerheads

I read somewhere that timing your lighting with your powerheads is a good idea to give your fish rest. I do have the powerheads connected to an UGF. Is it still a good idea to shut them off at night? What is your opinion? Thank you.

Just an observation:
The ocean never stops moving, why would you want your tank to?

Hi, you might be referring to getting an extra powerhead and hooking it to a timer to create waves by turning it off and on. If that's not the case, you always need lots of water movement. If you haven't already got the tank established, I would take the UGF out. These things trap debris in the dead spaces which can add to you nitrate levels.

The water movement ensures that all areas of your tank that need oxygen will get it. It also makes sure that your tank is evenly heated.

Ditto on take the UGF out. If you leave it in you need to pump water through it at all times or else the bacteria dies and your bilogical filter is gone - hello ammonia!
