I am really excited that I received a 55 gallon sw tank for x-mas.
The problem I have now is setting everythin up. They sold my husband
it seems like 10 different pumps and filters. Any advice. He said the store
gave him a quick overview but we are still lost.
Excited to get started.

Welcome to SWF.com!!!!! Do you happen to know exactly what equipment he bought? You have several weeks before it is time to add any fish. Spend this time doing as much research as you can. Some excellent books are " The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert Fenner and "The Essential Guide to Marine Fish" by Scott Michaels In the mean time, read through some of these posts to see what difficulties other people have had so you will be prepared and avoid mistakes other hobbiests have made. Please feel free to post any and all questions that you may have. The number one rule in this hoby is to be patient and go slowly. I know it is exciting, but you will save yourself alot of headaches if you take your time and do things right. Again, welcome!!!

That is awesome. In my experience, as well many others here, the best thing you can do for yourselves, your fish , as well as your wallet is to take things very slow. It is a common misconception that this is a hard habby. That is not the case at all if you do your best to take your time and educate yourself (which you are obviously doing because you are here
) I recommend a book called the Conscientous Marine Aquariast by Robert Fenner. It is full of wisdom. Aso Please feel free to ask away with questions. We are all happy to help!! As far as all the pumps go, some are most likely for the filters and some are probably powerheads. Powerheads are used to simply increase the current in your tank. You want to position them so that you can avoid any "dead" areas of flow. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas!!!

Sounds good. Did you get a thermometer or a liquid master test kit? What kind of salt mixture did you get? What kind of substrate?
