hey all i posted this in the lps area but no one had any hits for me..i just purchased a HUGE goniopora"flower pots" and a large torch coral from my LFS. the flower pots are doing great i have them up high in the tank..i put the torch at the bottom and within a few days it did not look good , atleast one of the heads didnt. i just moved it to the top also about an hour ago is this probably what it was? a lack of light? im only running power compacts on a 90 gallon. im hoping this takes care of it!! any advice would be great. water is fine, all of my other corals are great also, i just wasnt sure on the torchs...it is not close enough to anything to be getting stung or anything at all...just one head looks like its dying.

Hi,
I got a torch also, acclimated it (it was so happy it opened up!) and then after a night in my tank, it's "melting" away. What the heck!!!

well i think i found my problem im just to embarrased to mention what it was
i have it way up top in a decent mount of flow which it doesnt mind, i fed it last night... 265 watt PC's way up top should be enough to keep it..im upgrading to a 220 gallon with 400 watt metal halides shortly here..so as long as it can hang on itll be great soon :) it looks better already this morning and it looked terrible last night..i think one of the heads is gone..all the tentacles dissappeared yesterday"from morning to night"it was a fast process..i hope i can save the other 3. each head is just about to split off into 3

put it and store water in a bowl, and then a shot glass about every 5-10 min till water was 75% mine 25%. It was open then..I quickly transfered to tank and placed.

You don't need to acclimate corals more than just the temp acclimation. Especially when you are bringing them from short distance away. A lot of times the acclimation does more harm than good. At least that is how I was taught.

How many corals have you done....really???? I've been told that way, but if it's not right and working for you maybe I'll try!!

Really, chill out!
I've done maybe 50+ in the last 2 months and haven't lost a single one.

Cool!!! So just a temp acclimation and then place? That is SOOOOOO much easier! Thanks and I'll try it tomorrow!!

Yep, just temp acclimate in the bag, make sure you don't have your lights on because you can easily cook the coral in the baggy.

I'd be more upset about a coral dying than losing the $60 I spent on it :p
There are way too many variables to guess why your torch coral isn't doing well. We need all of your water parameters, how old your tank is, and how you acclimated the coral.
I'm already slightly concerned that you've added 3 new "large" corals all at once.
Keep in mind that the torch coral requires feedings of fresh, meaty foods (seafood) every 2-3 days.
As far as the goniopora, I will not sugar coat it. They are more than likely going to go into a slow decline over the next few months and wither into nothing. They are not suitable for captivity.

this is wrong! sorry but even when going from a short distance home with a coral from the LFS you still might need to acclimate the coral because of several things: the LFS's SG, salinaity, ph all might be different in the LFS water compared to your DT's water.

i figured out my issues, the torch is doing great now, i lost one of the 5 heads but the rest of it is great now..and the goniopora is doing well as of now, well see how it goes!

Can you share with us what the problems were. They might sound silly or simple, but one of us newbies might be able to learn from it and not make the same moves.
Thanks!

i dont even temp acclimate my corals just leave them out of water for a minute till they slime up good and place where u want. never lost one yet. only acclimating they need is to light especially if u have MH, start them low them move up slowly
