hey everyone, i just got some new zoos from crush9989. i do not know what kind they are, nor have they opened up yet. I am going to take some pictures 2m night once i get back from work...I just have a few questions for you guys since these are my first zoas i have ever gotten..
1- wheres the best place to place the zoas? They are on a small piece of rock that he placed them on..(for expansion and growth) Should i keep them toowards the top so they can get more light? I have a 150 watt MH 14K bulb.
2- how do i feed them?
3- how should i place my power heads so they can have good water flow? I have a 29 hex..one on each side facing the middle?( i dont think this would be the right way)
4- snails and hermits aren't harmful right?
5- is there anything else i should know?
thanks!
I would take pictures now but my stupid brother took my camera with him on his vacation. I get it back 2m

i would place them middle to low. if u choose to place them high u gotta aclimate them to the light....the temp is fine..just as long its constant..bad if u have huge temp swings everyday..u don't need to feed them..but u can feed with filter feeder food..but i never feed mines....medium flow is fine for zoa..

I have a 150 watt MH 14K bulb. That depends on what the previous owner had them under... I would keep them under indirect light for a bit down at the bottom of your tank.
2- how do i feed them? I have never fed my zoa's but some do, phyto, cyclops small micron foods shut off all pumps and flow.
3- how should i place my power heads so they can have good water flow? I have a 29 hex..one on each side facing the middle?( i dont think this would be the right way) IMO Not too much flow indirect is good moderate to mild
4- snails and hermits aren't harmful right? well typical clean up crew snails and hermits are not harmful.
5- is there anything else i should know?Keep an eye on them for a while after you get them, post with any abnormal looking things no matter what. Otherwise sit back and enjoy them
thanks!

hey thanks this was extremely helpful. I got them on thursday and they still have not opened. Is this normal?

It is normal. They can take weeks sometimes to open. Look up some of the information on Iodine dipping, that can help encourage them to open sometimes.
Good luck and welcome to the addiction...zoanthids are like potato chips...no one can have just one

some of my zoos are not opening. i got some from sharkbait and they opened right up. The ones that are not opening were shipped to my house. is this a reason why they wont open due to them being stressed? how long will it take for them to open? how do i know if they died?
