Also what would i put on the bottom of the aquarium? right now i have pebbles. I originally had this tank set up for a parana. Please let me know what i need to do to have a clown fish. :notsure: Hi, I am pretty new at saltwater too, but will try to help. As far as the filter goes it depends on how much water it moves (GPH ). Almost any lighting is ok unless you want corals. Mushrooms do ok under fluorescent lighting as well as some others. But you have to do some research on other corals. I would use some live sand and a little live rock. Heater is good if it has the right wattage. As far as the clowns go I would go with the smaller ones. Black & White Percula Clown and Clarkii Clown, a.k.a. Sebae Clown are two of the smaller clown fish, about 1 to 2 inches. They both are peaceful and don’t need an anemone, but will host most types.
I have a 72 gal with 2 maroon yellow stripes (not the most peaceful of the clowns) You can look at the male on the web site below.
