I have a 30 gallon tank. whisper filter and bio filter. singlew bulb 50/50 light. crushed corral in bottom. living rock with stuff growing on it. royal gramma and pajama fish, but pajama fish is about dead. small white dot looking things floating all through tank. rock has turned orange in some places. please help me.

sounds like your tank isn't cycled for one yet. which would lead me to believe that this is a very rescent purchase. you have to wait a month or two before adding fish like these. also get rid of the crushed coral and get live sand. get rid of that filter and get one that has a bio-wheel on it and it would be a good idea to get a powerhead.

Ok first up too many threads..I know you need help but you keep starting new threads and not answering the questions we have for you on the last two threads..your like a ping pong ball! LOL.. Ok can you post a picture? What are the white things doing? Swimmimg, floating etc. You said you used tap water? Explain how you are mixing your salt and water and if you are pouring it directly in the tank or letting it airate first..stuff like that, be patient we will figure it out..

I wouldn't worry about sand at the moment...but live sand has beneficial creatures living in it..You should have put that in there instead of CC along with your live rock. The white things I suspect maybe salt, did you airate and mix your salt for a day or two before putting it in your tank? Or did you just pour it in?

can you give us the steps of what you did up to adding your fish?

The salt has not disolved....thats why your rock is failing and your fish is dying..too much too soon. It's not like FW where you can just add fish..you have to let it cycle for a month before putting fish in there..I know it's tuff but you have to do things very slow with SW.

put cc in then put water in. waited 1 week and put rock in and a damsel.waited 1 week and put royal gramma and pajama in. damsel was mean to other fish so i gave it back to fish store. it was still healthy. now its about 1 week later and fish are dying and white things appeared about 4 days ago.

husband is getting me a 110 gallon for christmas. will you tell me steps to get it started so i dont make same mistake again?

Well they probably wont take the pajama back..but you can try. Yes take all that cc out and get live sand, leave your rock in, do a large water change and make sure you airate your water/salt mix in a new bucket for 24 hours before adding it to your tank, let it cycle for atleast a month, test for nitrates, ammonia, nitrites etc. before adding any fish.

are you kidding me..ok wheres the candid camera hidden. Why would you put 5.6 lbs of salt in a 30 gallon tank? didn't you read the directions on the back of the bag?
