Hello everyone,
I'm sooo glad I stumbled across this website but unfortunatly it was only after talking to and believing one of the guys at my LFS and spending a lot of $$. I was talked into buying a 100 gal tank, a Fluval 404, a huge heater, LOTS of live sand (about 2-3 inches), 2 large pieces of base rock and a few small pieces of live rock, along with 5 damsels to cycle the tank.
I set all of this up and let it cycle for 60 days while completing tour of duty near Afghanistan.
While overseas I read The Conscientious Marine Aquarist and 101 tips thread on this site and realized I made some mistakes. I plan to:
1. Get a sump or refuguim (sp?). What's the difference???
2. Get rid of some of this sand.
3. Get more live rock.
4. Take the damsels back to the LFS (I know they will be a pain to catch but I'll pretty much empty the tank).
5. Find a new LFS that knows what a REFRACTOMETER is.
6. Get a QT tank
Are there any other steps that I'm leaving out?
