newbie question

i've been reading alot of post about coraline algae, why is it that people want this in their tanks? is it just looks or is there something else beneficial about this algae. sorry bout the newbie question.

other than looks, it is usually a good sign of good conditions in the tank.

If you have a well establish coraline algae base, it will take up the nurtients that would be taken up by hair and slime algae. More coraline algae means less of the aglae you don't want.
There is the looks. THe purples, pinks, orange, and greens all look cool.
