I'm just starting the planning process for a 55g. I am thinking that I may eventually get a florida condi (not until I have plenty of experience with just fish, probably at least half a year). Would 260 watts be enough if I put him near the surface of the tank?

Yes 260 watts of PC over a 55 would keep a florida condi happy... Condi's are actually one of the easiest anemones to keep in the home aquariums. Depending on what type of clowns you are planing on having - they may not use the anemone however.

260watts of PC should do, however it makes no difference if you are going to place him on top of rocks, he will move or in many cases with this anemone he will just tumble around the aquarium for a while. make sure to cover your power heads.
