I recently began playing with a 90g reef that I have let become a fish and live rock only tank, but now I am beginning to add some corals to the existing rock. I think that I would like to build myself a refugium, and I want to ask as many questions as possible before I start. Sorry If they are stupid questions.
90g tank, what size refugium? I'll make it easy. 30g is the biggest that will fit where I want it to.
To built it out of a tank I belive that I would need to glue in a plexi sheet to act as an overflow for the return pump. Is this correct?
How high should the overflow be? This will determine the size (water level) of the refugium.
Some designs have added two plexi sheets, one as overflow return and one for incoming water. Is this nessesary? (if the flow rate will be 90g per hour, it shouldn't cause too much turbulence)
Also, will florescent lights suffice? Even for Calerpa?
How much rock should go into a refugium?
What else should I put in there?
Thank you,
Adam Jaffe
When I began with marine aquariums, there were no message boards like this to ask questions. Thanks saltwaterfish.com!
