Im new to the hobby, and LOVING IT, but I could use some help. My 40 gal is going through the cycle. Can I get some suggestions for the best, but not most expensive skimmers? Are the in sump ones any good? :notsure: Any help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

For a 40 gal, it would be hard to go wrong with the AquaC Remora for a HOT skimmer and if you want an in-sump, go with the AquaC Urchin. Just get the maxijet pump/powerhead. One of the best, not nearly the most expensive, and very reliable.

Just my $0.02

I prefer the Euro Reefs, easy to use, requires little maintenance and very effective. They do however require a sump and can be pricey. From my experience (I've had several different skimmers) all skimmers can be effective. Get the one that best suits your needs (configuration , size, etc..) and don't compromise on that, even if it means spending a little more. It seems to me everytime I start worring about money, I end up with something I did not really want (cheaper), or does not quite work they way I neeed it to and I'm not happy, this was especially true with skimmers. I finally just decieded to pick the skimmer I wanted, then start saving to buy it. Anyway I don't mean to preach (I guess I did) just my opinion.
