hi all!!!! im new here!
i have never kept any marine fish at all (my dad is very experienced with it..he had a 55 gal for many years) and would like to get started in it
in a few weeks, i will be getting a 12 gallon tank, is there any possility that i will be able to make it a saltwater tank?
i dont have any idea about SW fish...but i would like to have a clown fish and an Anenomoe (spelling?!) or one of those yellow tailed damsles..there nice
i would also like to have a blenny..i adore those things.
also, i wouldnt mind some kind of crab or invertabrate, i would really like some cleaner shrimp!
but my ideal setup would be:
Live rock
2 hermit crabs
1 yellow tail damsel fish
1 clown fish
2 shrimp
i will be using crushed coral as a substrate...
what u think?

My first thought is that a 12 gallon tank is less than ideal for a newcommer to saltwater.A tank that small is pretty hard to keep the water quality perfect.Second, that is really too much to put in a 12.Lastly,you would be much better off using 2or 3 inches of live sand instead of crushed coral.CC tends to trap uneaten food, and fish waste. This waste will rot,and cause high nitrates.I think you would be better off starting with a 55 or larger tank. But if you are set on the small setup,go slow. And only put the clown in it with the sand and live rock. After about six months you will be able too add the anemone. In the meantime,do some reading about marine fish keeping. There is alot to learn...

the reason why i say i want CC is becasue the tank comes with an undergravel filter and i have heard that i need a powerhead in a saltwater tank?
also, on another website, i posted this and they sed that my tank would be WAY to small for an anenome...never mind a yellow tail damsel!!!
i asked my dad and he sed thgat it would be ok with those fish as long as i keep up with water changes..true?
oh my god..i would so love an anenome :) then that way, there would be no danger of fighting with the clown and the yellow tail damsel coz the clown would stay in the anenome?
thanks

well if you say your dad is expierenced, it could probably be done if he helped you, how long has it been since he has had his 55G? I believe the others have answred your question on the substrate. Do lots of reading, this BB is a good place to start! :)
Good Luck!
