ok so i dont have a preaditor tank yet, but am serously considering. like always doing my research before i get into it. i current have a reef tank.
anyways, i coudl firt about a 110 gallon tank in my room
a) is this an ok size tank to house triggers, eals, lion fish, groupers, ets. (what couldnt i put besides sharks or rays)?
b) what can you use for clean up crews if you have eals and triggers?
c) how critical is waterquality with fish only - compared to reef (coudl i use a cheaper salt and tap water?
d) what about filtration, could i get away without a sump?

a) you could not in my opinion house many of the fish you are talking about. possible one large specimen and a couple smaller ones but triggers and V lions get big and need more space. I cant really answer this question till i saw what species you liked. Make up a list and ill tell you what will do okay together and what will fit.
b) with eels you can put a variety of crabs, (not hermits) small enough to hide in your rocks and urchins do real well. With almost all other aggressive fish though, you wont be able to keep any.
c) water quality is still critical as it is what your animals are going to be living in. when you say cheaper salt, most any will do. I use instant ocean which works fine, just takes forever to cure. And tapwater,... you can use it without problems but if you are going to use light, even just 50W, a nasty brown film will cover your tank walls, rocks and sand. Its not pretty and i would not use it myself.
d) You could do without a sump but it will just create more work for you. If you have some good pumps for filtration, a LARGE skimmer and you run some carbon every once in a while to clear the water you should be fine. But you will probably need to do 20g water changes weekly to keep you levels right.
