If you're planning on making the switch as I just did two days ago, let me make a STRONG recommendation to you. DO NOT turn your filter on, if it is a wet/dry like mine is, until ALL of the sand has settled. I waited 4 hours and thought I'd better turn it back on, but today I noticed my return valve was spitting out cloudy water every so often. I looked in my sump and there was sand EVERYWHERE!!! I had to pull it out and clean everything, including rinsing out every bioball. I also had to clean out my overflow. WHAT A MESS!!! I realize now it was stupid to turn it back on so soon, but didn't realize at the time how much sand could build up in your sump.
Also, now that I have it all cleaned up, I dusted off my rocks. I used a brush for turkey basting. I'm planning to leave the filter off until the new dust cloud settles. Trust me, it took me almost 2 hours to clean everything! Hope I save some people some hassle.
