Newest Addition (Lion)

I was hoping to get a lion for myself for valentine's day, but i decided to wait a little longer.
About a month ago, my lfs got in a tiny little lion (maybe 1"-1.5" long). The guy told me if i wanted to buy him, they would hold the little guy for me as long as i wanted to make sure that he would eat. They said they would try to get him to eat frozen foods, but couldn't promise it.
After a month of waiting, they said he had no problems eating zebra daniels and ghost shrimp (they started carrying the ghost shrimp when the manager got on to them about feeding FW fish to a SW fish). They said that he has eatten mysis a time or two, but not enough to consider only using it.
Well, anyway, i brought him (and a few shrimp) home tuesday!

They said it was a dwarf the first time i asked, but i was told later that he is a Volitan. Maybe you guys can tell from the pics.
He swims around a little, and is nearly always hiding. But i think thats only bc of the new home. I dont think he has eaten any of the shrimp yet, i hope it is only a matter of time. He should come out of hiding within a few days, right?

Looks like a Volitans to me. He is going to outgrow your 55 in less than a year and will probably eat your clownfish.

Looks like a Volitan to me too. Congrats on the new fish, it looks cool!

Peronally I'd be afraid to put a Volitan with a small clown. As it grows it might eat the poor little guy. Also, Lions are more active at night and not unusual to hide during the day.

I've got a 10g that is cycling right now (for live food for the lion).
If it looks like the lion is growing much faster than the clown, i'll move the clown to the 10g with the ghost shrimp. The clown is about the size of my thumb, and the body of the lion is about the size of the first 2 knuckles of my little finger. But i'll keep an eye on them

Last time i saw the lion was Friday when i took the pictures, and none of the shrimp that i put in there had been eaten, so i got a little worried.
I needed to do a water change anyway, so i took out all the live rock to find the Lion.
I was going to put him in the 10g until i was positve that he was eating again.
I took out every piece of rock and coral. The only things left in the tank were sand, a clown, 2 chromis, and a YW Goby.
Which means that unless the Lion can hide in the sand, he is gone! Along with the rainsford goby.
I looked all around the stand, under it, took everything apart, and it is nowhere to be found! I wouldnt think that he would have starved in just the couple days that i had him.
Anyone have any ideas?

Do you have a cover on your tank? Although rare, I heard of lions jumping out. Do you have a sump? If so, did you check there? Even if it died, it wouldn't just disappear.

I have a DIY canopy with an open back, but i checked all around, didnt find a thing. I dont have a sump, but i do have a canister filter, but one end has a spraybar and the other end is the regular prefilter screen. But I'll still check the inside of the canister when i get home.
I wouldnt think the hermits would have gotten rid of him that fast.

Hermits & a good filter system can make a small fish disappear very quickly. Most fish will also pick at the remains and help the process. Sorry for the loss, if you decide to get another; I'd suggest a true dwarf. A volitan can grow large enough to lunch on that perc in a few months. You have to see how big a meal lions can handle before you believe it.
