Ok heres the deal, bottom line is our 120 gallon fish only tank crashed big time killing everything. I want to make some changes to the filtration system before getting it set up again , currently it is running 2 large fuval filters and 2 prism hang on skimmers
I want to dump the fuvals and go with a wet /dry set up the same as our 110 gallon reef tank
The reason our tank crashed is due to our spotted boxfish getting stressed and releasing its toxins then eventualy died and within 1 week and everything was dead including a four year old french angel

my question is how do I clean out our tank there is no live rock so can i just take the regular rock in bleach then let them in the sun ?
Can I empty out the water and add fresh water and let it cycle a few day then do an entire change adding new salt water?
I have some live rock that has been curing the last few months for another project can I add this rock to start the cycle project? :help: :help: :help:
any suggestions appreciated, thanks in advance

then I would either replace that sand, or wash it really well.
Yes, do take out all of the water, adn replace it wiht new water.
yes, do sterilize all
equipment (and rock), but use vinegar, or a very saline mix.
The sterilizing thing isn't really out of fear of the puffer toxin, more so that nay diseases in the old tank won't be reintroduce into this tank.
p.s. I would also clean the tank glass with regular old FW.

Thanks CELACANTHr for the fast reply

yes the main thing we want to do is throughly sterilize everything pertaining to the tank before starting again
I will dump the old sand and will get new live sand
The wet/dry system I have on our reef tank works awesome and has done so since setting it up over 8 months ago so a similar system for my fish only tank should be ok to then right?
