Niger Trigger and Dwarf Lionfish?

I have a very young Niger Trigger (about 3 inches.) I saw at a local pet store that they had an African Dwarf Lionfish for sale (about 3 inches as well.) Can these two live together peacefully?

I dont know the answer to your question but have one of my own. Does your niger bit you? Mines about 4" and nailed me the other day and I have not put my hand back in the tank to see if this is the norm.

Dwarf lions get about 6 inches, Nigers can get upwards of 20.
The niger isn't considered an aggressive fish but normally requires its tank mates to be as big as it is. So its possible the niger might nail the lion but the lion is a fish eater and its mouth can get fairly large to swallow with so if the lion out grows the niger quickly enough....
how large is the tank they are going into? or are in.
your niger will normally require 75 gallons to do well by itself if no more nigers are added

No, my niger has never bit me. It seems to be very timid and shy. It gets easily 'spooked' and hasn't distrurbed anything else in the tank. However, I've only had this little guy for about 10 weeks.
The tank I have is 90 gallons with around 80 pounds of LR. Currently I have a Dog Face Puffer (6-7 inches), a Niger Trigger, Blue Starfish, a couple Damsels (that I've been trying to remove for weeks now!) and a mated full grown pair of Percula Clowns. Not to mention the crabs, snails, etc... They all get along extremely well and nobody bothers anybody at all. I don't want to overcrowd my tank, but I really like to get a Lionfish. That's why I'm debating on getting the Dwarf Lionfish.

I'd just be worried about it eating anything small, or accidentally stinging my other fish since its pretty venomous. Can even sting you on accident if your in the tank cleaning.

That's what I'm worried about too. I think I'm gonna try it though. It'll be one of the smallest fish in the tank and nobody else is going ot eat it, so it should be alright.

I could be wrong, but aren't triggers known to nip at the fins of lionfish?

Watch them closely; most triggers (and many puffers) will find a lions fins irresistible. There are exceptions, of course, but (IMO & IME) this lion will be attacked sooner or later. If your lfs knew you were putting these fish together, I'd sure question any advice you get from them.

The 3 inch Dwarf Lion will stay small, the 3 inch Niger can grow quite large and tend to get much more aggressive as they get older. I'm on my second Niger Trigger and they are great fish in the right set up, but my 5 year old Niger was a very different fish than he was when I first got him....Buyer beware.....Tank-mates too.
Good example of Big Lionfish meets Big Triggerfish....This is not a happy Lionfish.

This is a very common outcome. Many folks say Nigers aren't aggressive. I disagree; they may not be the most aggressive TRIGGER, but certainly are aggressive fish and their big red teeth are made for chomping & nipping.
